Feb 25 – Theme, Characterization, Mood, and Stereotypes

 

Today we are going to review stereotypes and their importance in a story, please make a list of five types on a separate sheet of paper.

Characterization – Direct or Indirect (STEAL)

– using “The Cat in the Hat” fill in the indirect characterization sheet. See youtube clip if you are away and don’t have the book.

Next mood, I’ll give you the term and a list of potential types of mood that could be developed in a piece of literature, use the list and come up with five to ten examples (movies, books, etc). 

Finally theme, I’ll give you the term and a list of potential types of theme that could be developed in a piece of literature, use the list and come up with five to ten examples (movies, books, etc). 

Next we’ll read “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein (the blk and wht narrated – comic – video can be found on youtube). Read the short story and write me a paragraph on the theme in the piece “The Giving Tree”.
